They can keep us going, they can keep me focused, they are powerful tools that motivate us to achieve our goals.

They also serve as an easy way to get out of our own way, and help us connect with our fellow human beings.

There are, however, certain questions that we should be asking ourselves, to see if they will help us stay motivated.

As a result, it is important to ask questions to understand what motivates people.

Here are five motivational questions to ask yourself.

What motivates you?

What motivators can you identify that you would like to use in your own life?

If you are not sure how to answer this question, you might consider asking yourself, “How motivated are I right now?”

Do I like what I am doing?

Is there anything I am not doing that is rewarding to me?

Do people in my life enjoy doing things that I enjoy?

Do they like my company, my friends, or my work?

4.

Do my peers like me?

Do I enjoy working with people?

Are they successful?

Are I happy?

5.

Do any of these things bother me?

If yes, what is the reason? 

Are there things that bother me that I am missing from my life?

Are there things in my career that I have not achieved that I want to achieve? 

If there are things that are bothering you, then consider asking, “What motivates me right now?”. 

Motivators do not come into your life with a blank slate.

There is always something that you can improve upon, something that needs improvement, or that needs to be changed.

In fact, many of us are driven by something we believe to be our own greatest need, something we want to improve upon.

That something can be a sense of accomplishment, of a sense that we are doing something worthwhile, of some sense of belonging or belongingness, or a sense we are having some type of connection with someone or something.

We are driven to do what we feel is the right thing to do because we have something to feel good about. 

So, if you are looking to improve your life, do not stop there.

Ask, “Am I doing what is right for me?”

This can help you decide what type of person you are and what kind of person needs to change. 

Do I want the person in my lives to feel better?

Am I having the best relationship with them?

Am the relationship with the person I am working with better? 

Do they have any goals in life that I need to achieve and that I can work towards?

Do the goals make sense? 

Should I work to achieve those goals?

Am there any limits to what I can achieve?

Are my goals not ambitious?

Am my goals reasonable?

Do these goals make my life better?

Are these goals achievable? 

Is my goal achievable?

Are the goals achievable in a reasonable amount of time? 

What can I improve upon? 

Am I making progress?

Am things getting better?

Is my life getting better, in a positive way?

Is the situation getting better in a way that I would like it to be? 

Can I improve my life in any way?

Am these changes in my situation making me happy?

Is that a positive thing for me? 

 How do I feel about my life right now?

What is my happiness level right now and what do I want in the world? 

Have I succeeded in accomplishing my goals? 

Am I making improvements to my life that are beneficial for others? 

How have my efforts improved my life for others, and have I made a positive difference? 

Did I make any mistakes? 

I want to be a better person and I want my life to improve for everyone I care about.
